McMaster ranks fourth among Canada’s top universities in Maclean’s rankings

McMaster was ranked No. 1 in Canada for student services and No. 2 for research income among universities with a medical school and a broad range of PhD programs and research. 


For the seventh consecutive year, McMaster has ranked fourth in Canada in Maclean’s annual university rankings.

“This national recognition of the support we offer our students affirms McMaster’s commitment to developing talent for the future of Canada,” said McMaster President David Farrar.

“The Maclean’s ranking also shows the country that McMaster researchers are trusted partners in finding solutions to some of the most complex challenges of our time.”

McMaster faculty ranked second in Canada for research grants related to science, engineering and health, behind the University of Toronto. Researchers at the university also ranked second for grants related to social sciences and humanities, behind McGill University.

In the overall category, McGill University placed first in Canada, followed by the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia.

Maclean’s has been publishing annual university rankings since 1991, placing Canada’s universities into three broad categories: medical doctoral, comprehensive, and primarily undergraduate.

Recently, McMaster ranked among the top 100 public universities globally in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR).

McMaster also ranked 30th in the world this year in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The impact rankings are an international benchmark for universities around the world working toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
