An investment of $5.2M through SSHRC and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation will support 37 research projects led by established and emerging researchers at McMaster.

The federal government has awarded $5.2 million to 37 McMaster researchers to advance discoveries across the disciplines.

The funding comes from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

The Government of Canada announced the awards on Sept. 13 as part of a broader investment in Canada’s research ecosystem.

“Today, we celebrate the remarkable researchers, students and institutions set to benefit from this vital funding. The Government of Canada will continue to empower them by providing the resources and opportunities to advance their groundbreaking work,” said François-Philippe Champagne, minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

“By investing in their growth and development, we are reinforcing Canada’s leadership in global research and innovation and paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future for everyone.”

The funding will help established and emerging researchers conduct groundbreaking studies that address complex challenges, said Vice-President, Research (acting) Andy Knights.

“We thank the federal government for their continued investment in McMaster research,” Knights said.

“With this support, our researchers will be able to advance important discoveries that contribute to the health, economic and social well-being of Canadians, while ensuring Canada remains competitive on the world’s research stage.”

SSHRC Insight Grants

Fifteen McMaster researchers were awarded a total of over $1.6 million in Insight Grants.

Insight Grants support both emerging and established scholars as they conduct research that addresses complex issues about individuals and societies, informing the search for solutions to societal challenges.

SSHRC Insight Development Grants

Eleven researchers were awarded a total of $713,000 in Insight Development Grants.

Insight Development Grants are designed to support research in its initial stages, or the work of those who wish to explore new research questions, methods or approaches.
