Resurgent Histories: The Indigenous History Lab brings together Indigenous youth, scholars, artists and community organizations to share history from Indigenous communities through film.
The course is an example of resurgent history, or the idea of focusing on Indigenous histories told from within the community as a powerful tool for self-determination and sovereignty.
Allan Downey, associate professor in McMaster’s department of history and Indigenous Studies Program, is helping to shine a light on the history of lacrosse and how it was used to assimilate Indigenous youth in Canada.
