Nancy Heddle’s contributions to transfusion medicine have led to changes in routine laboratory testing, blood processing, and transfusion practice. Heddle received the award on September 11 at the annual National Honouring our Lifeblood event.
McMaster researchers led an international study that found that prolonged blood storage does not have an effect on mortality after transfusion in a general population of hospitalized patients.
