McMaster is hosting a major conference with the world’s leading experts on antibiotic resistance in an effort to address the growing global threat of superbugs. The Gairdner Symposium, entitled Fuelling the Fight Against Antimicrobial Resistance, runs Thursday, Nov. 14 and Friday, Nov. 15.
One in four infections is already resistant to antibiotics and other known forms of treatment, and 5,400 Canadians died last year from infections had been treatable. It’s imperative that we all appreciate the severity and urgency of AMR.
The award is given annually to a nominated candidate who has affected the University, enhanced its reputation, provided excellent service and demonstrated innovation.
